Hopkins House Near Completion

By Masonry

The new Hopkins House Fairfax County Child and Family Learning Center has been funded through donations of time, services and funds. This facility was built with more than $1 million in donated architectural and construction services from D.C.- area organizations, and coordinated through the Virginia Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC-VA). An additional $1 million in funding was donated by private individuals, companies and foundations.

The 8,500-square-foot education center consists of a building on 1.6 acres of land at the intersection of Forest Place and Richmond Highway. The center will serve families throughout Fairfax County, especially those within the immediate Mount Vernon neighborhoods. The facility will feature a preschool for 96 children, ranging from ages 6 weeks to 5 years; a children's indoor environment discovery center; a family health screening room; a community and parent meeting hall; and a computer-based technology learning center for adolescents, teens and adults. The center will provide meaningful, full-time employment for 20 education professionals.

The Masonry Institute had members who volunteered time, materials and labor force to get the job done: Betco Supreme Block, Calvert Masonry, HD Supply/White Cap Construction Supply, L.F. Jennings Inc., Potomac Valley Brick, Spec-Mix/Quikrete, and United Masonry.
